The Star of the Dish: The Gravy
The creamy sauce for Swedish meatballs is made with butter, beef broth, flour, and heavy cream. But the real magic happens in the skillet after browning the meatballs, all those golden bits stuck to the bottom give the sauce its amazing flavor!
Ingredients
Spaghetti
Meatballs (I used frozen, but you can make them from scratch if you prefer)
3 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 cup heavy cream (equivalent to fresh cream)
Butter
Olive oil
½ medium onion (optional)
Fresh parsley
Salt and black pepper to taste
How to make it
Cook the pasta and set aside. In a large skillet, fry the meatballs in butter and a drizzle of olive oil (the oil prevents the butter from burning). Once golden brown, remove and set aside.
In the same skillet, sauté the onion, then add the flour, beef broth, and heavy cream. Stir until the flour is fully dissolved and the sauce is smooth (about 5 minutes). Season with salt and pepper.
Return the meatballs to the skillet, coat them in the sauce, and sprinkle with fresh parsley.
Serve immediately and enjoy!
